Club Flix Juniors, scooped Best Drama at this year's national First Light Awards which took place yesterday at the Odeon, Leicester Square, London. Hosted by BBC's Dick and Dom, the star-studded ceremony provide a glittering showcase for the best of British youth filmmaking and an opportunity for those involved to receive their awards from celebrity presenters including Sir Ian McKellan, Bill Nighy, Tamsin Greig and Ralf Little.
With Best Drama scheduled as one of the last categories to be announced, the local filmmakers had an exciting and nail-biting wait with fellow category finalists from Worthing and London. But it was Club Flix Juniors who triumphed on the day and went up on stage to receive their award from Ralf Little (BBC's "Royle Family" and ITV's "Married, Single, Other") and Nick Hoult ("Skins" and films "About the Boy" and "A Single Man").
Club Flix Juniors have won widespread acclaim for their eerie thriller, which was described by the judges as " a wonderfully well shot and thought out film with a great ...concept".
The atmospheric feature is a modern take on the classic film noir, "whodunit" scenario, and was devised by the club of 10 to 13 year olds, with support from industry professionals. For most of the children involved, this was their first serious encounter with film production, and the catalyst for a growing passion for movie making.
The First Light Award judging panel this year included Alan Parker and Sam Mendes, and actors, David Harewood, Maxine Peake and David Walliams. Further information on the awards can be found at www.firstlightonline.co.uk

Our Distribution co-ordinator, Elspeth, has been busy applying to film festivals both at home and aboard, and has recently heard that her hard work has paid off. The Club Flix senior' film "Clippy" was screened at the local heats of the Wiltshire based-Preloader festival last week, and Club Flix steering group member, Jack Crocker has heard that his film "From Choice to Change" has gone through to the Gala final on March 4th. This makes it two in a row for Jack's film which has also been accepted for competition screening at the Videotivoli festival in Finland. Meanwhile Club Flix Juniors scored a hatrick for their debut thriller "Broken Circle" with screening successes at Preloader, Videotivoli and the Leeds Young Peoples' Festival.
Congratulations to all the young filmmakers involved.
