focus entertainment: ATLAS FALLEN
We always know that when the phone call comes in from the team at Focus Entertainment that it’s going to be an amazing project. This time, they wanted to produce a trailer for the launch of their new game — Atlas Fallen Lord of the Sands.
THE THINKING
Having developed a great relationship with the Focus Entertainment team on projects in the past we put together the same core crew. This included our Snr producer Jeremy, the wonderfully talented DOP Louie Blystad-Collins and booking the space at SandStorm Studios.
We toyed with the idea of making the trailer in Unreal Engine but ultimately we decided it just had to be in real life - it really needed to look realistic and immersive, so there could be no trace of anything digital that would shatter the illusion. There was a time constraint too. It was actually quicker to do everything in live action and build a real set rather than creating one in Unreal.
We pulled in Nandie Narishkin to design the set and oversee the build by 4Wood and PolyProps and Nicole Fairfield for hair & makeup which included full wig and beard. It was full steam ahead and what could have been a stressful process was a huge amount of fun for everyone involved.
THE
BRIEF
They wanted something that was a nod back to the video game ads of the 90s, a mixture of live action and gameplay. Those ads were always pretty ‘out there’ and quite daring. The phrase ‘if you know, you know’ is applicable here – these ads may not mean much to the average onlooker, but to the fans, it’s so exciting. They had a concept and a rough creative outline and wanted to work with us to bring it to life. BUT they only had about 6 weeks to produce it! We needed to find a studio, build a set, cast it and turn the cast into spooky monks and one epic wizard!
THE OUTPUT
A full set build and three days of filming at Sandstorm Studios with a talented crew resulted in a brilliant outcome. Thanks to the creative spontaneity of our director, a perfect performance from our actor, and attention to detail from the whole crew, we were able to produce a trailer that got 2.8 million views and priceless interaction with fans.
