ukri: 101 jobs - switching sectors
We were asked to create a series of video case studies for a campaign titled 101 Jobs – Switching Sectors. The goal? To spotlight individuals who’ve stepped off the traditional academic path and into unexpected careers — bringing fresh perspectives and bold solutions to complex challenges.
THE THINKING
To bring 101 Jobs – Switching Sectors to life, we leaned on our seasoned in-house production team — senior producer, production manager, creative lead and director — all of whom have a long-standing relationship with UKRI and a deep understanding of their workflow, expectations and brand.
From kick-off to delivery, we kept things clear, collaborative and responsive. We clarified objectives, mapped out the narrative arc for each case study, and coordinated with contributors early to lock in logistics and shape each story with care. Pre-production calls helped us unearth the details that matter, while our camera crew and trusted freelance network ensured flexibility on filming days.
We kept crews lean, locations relevant and interviews relaxed — drawing out the human story behind each switch. Animation and post ran in tandem to keep timelines tight, with storyboards, cuts and animatics shared for feedback at every step. Once approved, we delivered polished final films with subtitles, thumbnails and asset bank uploads ready to roll. Fluid, fast and full of heart — just how we like it.
THE
BRIEF
These stories are designed to spark wider interest in research and innovation, showing that when talented people are free to move across disciplines and sectors, great things happen. Each 3-minute film (with up to 90 seconds of animation) follows a set narrative: the hook, the backstory, the switch, the transferable skills, the impact, and an uplifting final message. We’ll produce four videos in total, filming one per day at a single location, and delivering SRT files plus bespoke YouTube thumbnails.
THE OUTPUT
The final films delivered exactly what UKRI set out to achieve — human, heartfelt stories that challenge assumptions and celebrate bold career moves. Each video captured the individuality of the contributor while staying true to UKRI’s mission: showing how diverse routes into research and innovation are not only possible, but powerful. With slick production, thoughtful storytelling and a tone that hits just right, the series is already sparking conversations and inspiring new audiences. It’s a compelling proof of concept — and a blueprint for culture-shifting content.
